Understanding Lean can make improving your business easier than ever.

JJB Lean Academy is brought to you by JJB Corporation UK Ltd, a Lean Manufacturer based in Norfolk, UK.

Welcome to the JJB Lean Academy

We know from experience that learning and then implementing 2-Second Lean in a business is not easy. That’s why we’ve broken it down into just a few sections of learning, to hopefully make it as easy as possible to understand.

There are 3 main areas we will cover in the JJB Lean Academy.

The Basics

These will just be the basic concepts of lean manufacturing, to help you get a good understanding of the topics we will mention throughout the JJB Lean Academy.

The Lean Mindset

These are ways you can change your thinking and practical methods you can start to try out to get a real understanding for 2-Second Lean.

Implementing Lean

This will cover ways you can start to introduce Lean to your company and begin to bring people on board with your ideas and thinking.

What is 2-Second Lean?

At its core, 2-Second Lean is about making small improvements in your work which save you 2 seconds on a process.

It focuses on removing and reducing waste and making processes more efficient. Waste could be getting defects whilst making something. It could be spending more time on a task than is needed. It could be just walking an extra metre to grab something you need. By making improvements to remove or reduce this waste, you make things more efficient.

The idea is, that by making these improvements to save 2 seconds each time, you will make processes smoother and simpler. Doing this across your entire business can improve your entire workflow. This will reduce time and effort spent on production and transport.

When implemented well, 2-Second Lean can make your company more efficient and a better place to work. Your employees will be engaged and will be encouraged to problem-solve and self-improve.

Who are MacGuffin's Toy Company?

MacGuffin’s Toy Company has been making handmade wooden toys for children since 1903. It has been passed through the MacGuffin family for years. The way they make toys has barely changed in over 100 years and they struggle to keep up with modern demands.

The owner of MacGuffin’s Toy Company has recently retired from the business. He has left it to his son to run. The son, however, has noticed how wasteful the processes in the factory are. He needs a new way to run the company and improve things throughout the entire business. After looking online and discovering 2-Second Lean, he has decided that this is the way to go.

Throughout the JJB Lean Academy, we will explore 2-Second Lean being used in the MacGuffin Toy Factory. This will give you some easy examples to follow for each segment of the book.
